Biography of a Mad Cartoonist

Vladimir Stankovski was born in Vrsac, Serbia, and grew up in Plandiste near the Panonian Sea. And though he hasn't moved in years, he has changed countries several times: Yugoslavia, Serbia, Serbia and Montenegro, back to Serbia. The nation's leaders are presently holding a summit on decisiveness.

Vladimir earned a degree in mathematics before canceling his studies at Electrotechnics University to live the dream -- full-time, professional cartooning.

Vlade has illustrated for newspapers, magazines, and websites throughout the U.S., Serbia, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, Japan, Brazil, and some of those bottom-feeder countries that don't bear mention.

Vladimir's cartoons and illustrations have appeared at numerous festivals throughout Europe. Awards include:

  • Pop Rock Magazine Award for best R'N'R strip at Mladost Exhibition.
  • Rotring Company Award at the International Caricature and Comic Strip Festival in Kamijybetsu, Japan.
  • Special Prize at cartoon contest in Razgrad, Bulgaria.
  • Citation Award at the International Cartoon Contest at Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan.
  • Second place for Euro-humor "Good food Contest," Italy.
  • Third place at Pjer Cartoon Exhibition, Belgrade.

Vladimir has illustrated more than 30 books, including Dusan Kovacevic's Bila Jednom Jedna Zemlja (Once Upon a Time There Was a Country); Golden Palm on which the Cannes best Underground was based; Rudyard Kipling's Habitual stories; Svetlana Velmar Jankovic's award-winning Knjiga za Marka (The Book for Marko); and Still There, Clair, Serbian edition, by Canadian writer Yvonne Prinz.

In case you're not tired, Vladimir also works as a graphic designer for Vreme (Time), a weekly magazine in Serbia, and does spot duty The Vecernje Novosti Daily, Novosti Plus, Blic Daily, and others.

Vladimir illustrates Zoonix comic strips, which are available for syndication (inquire within), and he illustrates what is hands down the funniest and most popular comic strip in the history of newspaper funny pages: Snapshots the Cartoon.

Vladimir Stankovski is available for freelance illustration commissioned through his pimp Jason Love.
